    Unbustable ads

H&M’s new beachwear campaign featuring Jennie Runk is pretty awesome. In this article she explains that women have sent her messages saying that this ad campaign has given them the confidence to try on a bikini for the first time in years!

See… it does make a difference when we see diverse body types in advertising and media!

That confusing moment when you hear a good song in public. You don't know the title so, You listen to the most repeated word in that song and you search it when you get home.

shout out to racists who think my cultural garb looks better on white girls than the beautiful brown women who made it, wear it, live in it, and have been making, wearing and living in it for centuries.

I wish I could articulate what feels so off about artists like Kreayshawn, Iggy Azalea and Brooke Candy and their fans, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that they, as white chicks, are far less likely to face court or do time if they get busted holding. Plus they and their audience members can all pretty much dress straight and not get hassled by the cops because they suddenly look like nice, white, middle class kids.
Also, although Iggy Azalea seems to have a good flow she’s fucking Australian and grew up here so why the fuck is she singing in a heavy American accent and acting “gangsta” American style? It feels so appropriative and unnecessary considering that there’s a pretty strong hip hop scene here in Oz and New Zealand anyway, so why go to America and behave as if you grew up in one of their tough, inner city neighbourhoods?
Ugh, IDEK. Like I said, I can’t really articulate what irks me about them and that whole scene. But irk me it does.

I don’t know why I did it and maybe it has to do with the mention of it coming up over and over again on my dash but I watched Iggy Azalea’s “Bounce” and it is every bit awful as everyone’s saying it is. And she’s managed not only to make something ridiculously degrading a religious group but at the same time hypersexualized desi women in such a way that makes me feel dirty. And it hurts because it’s been done so many times before and it’s just sad.

The fluidity and usage of sexuality by desi women in their dances works differently than she understands, and she’s essentially just gone ahead and thought that by wearing a sari she’s capable of being someone who’s allowed that power. And further hypersexualize desi women. And white culture already does to all women not white. Uh-huh.
